  The Year 2000 Impact on HELP!Desk

[Version 3.40]  This version is Y2K ready with the following known exception: The pop-up calendar incorrectly shows February 2000 as having 28 days. The calendar correctly shows March 2000 and all subsequent and prior months.  The program will accept 02/29/2000 as a valid date, you just cannot select it from the calendar.

Databases for HELP!Desk have always stored dates with a four-digit year, so no changes to the data structure are required.  Data entry routines have been modified to support entry of dates beyond 12/31/1999.  Enabling Year 2000-ready date entry requires a setting in the HELP!Desk INI file, HDWIN.INI.  On new installations of 3.40, this setting is made automatically by the SETUP program.  On updates, the change must be made manually as follows:

  • Launch NOTEPAD and open the file C:\WINDOWS\HDWIN.INI.
  • Locate the [General]  section
  • Insert the following line
    ForceFourDigitYear=ON

Repeat these steps on each workstation.
